J.R.R. Tolkien was born in 1892 in England, but it was not until 1915 that he published his first novel, The Hobbit. It would go on to become one of the most influential stories of the 20th century, selling more than 75 million copies worldwide.
The unexpected journey of Hobbit follows a young hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, who lives in the Shire, a valley in the north of Middle-earth, a magical land inhabited by elves, dwarves, and men.
One day, Bilbo meets a mysterious character called Gandalf and accompanies him to a meeting with Gollum, a creature who lives in a cave, and the ring of the dwarf, Smaug, a dragon.
The following day, Bilbo is captured by goblins who are in the employ of the nasty, treacherous creature Sauron, and who are in the employ of the dragon, Smaug. Bilbo is imprisoned in the goblin’s dark and smelly dungeon.
After Bilbo escapes and the goblins are defeated, he meets a dwarf called Thorin Oakenshield, a member of the company of dwarves who are under the command of the King of the Lonely Mountain, Thorin. Thorin and Bilbo set out on a quest to reclaim the lost treasure of the dwarf, Thorin’s grandfather, which is guarded by a dragon, Smaug.
As they travel through the mountains, the two dwarves are joined by their three companions, the wizard Gandalf, the hobbit Bilbo and a dwarf named Ori.
The following day, they come across the dragon Smaug, who is guarding the treasure. They plan to take the treasure back to the dwarves, but the dragon has other plans for the group.
Meanwhile, Bilbo falls in love with a beautiful elf, named Eowyn, who lives in the forests of Lonely Mountain. She has a mysterious past, and she and Bilbo have to overcome the obstacles that they come across in their quest to rescue the dwarves.
The following day, the four dwarves and the three companions travel through the forest and come across a goblin village. Bilbo and his companions defeat the goblins but are then captured by the orcs, a race of wild beasts who are under the command of the evil creature Sauron.
The following day, Bilbo and the companions are captured by the orc leader, called Azog, and taken to the Orcish stronghold, called Moria.

Bilbo and his companions escape from the giant spider and find their way to the underground city of Dol Guldur, where the wizard Gandalf is held, prisoner.
The following day, the companions are taken by the elves to the elves’ city of Rivendell. Bilbo and the companions meet the elven king, Celebrimbor, and they are reunited with Eowyn. Bilbo is then taken by the elves to the home of Eowyn’s father, the elf king.
